CHANGES AT THE SHERIFFS OFFICE // BIG PROBLEMS

Well the Sheriff got his extra deputies at the tax payers expense, what the voters need to know is a few years ago the Sheriff was offered 2 deputies if he would cut some of the overtime waste, at no extra cost to the tax payer it would just come out of the overtime budget, and he would not take that offer. IT IS TIME TO WAKE UP VOTE SMART

I'm not sure if the SBI needs to look into that or if the County Commissioners can request an investigation. They are all Democrats and I don't think they are big Walking Small fans. It's just like he told the Republican Party several weeks ago that his department had over three million in seized funds that he bought all those full size trucks that get 10 miles to the gallon. But I guess that's not an issue if you just sit in the office all day and not patrol. The truth of the matter is, from what I understand, there was some money seized but it was under Mike Caudill's administration....it just took several years for it to finally be awarded. Walking Small wants to take credit for it though....and it was more like a hundred grand, not three million. He reminds me of the character "George" on the Seinfeld TV show many years ago who said....."it's not a lie if you believe it". Maybe that's what they say every week when they fill out their time sheets.

Elements common to embezzlement are as follows: (1) the property must belong to a person other than the accused, such as an employer or principal; (2) the property must be converted subsequent to the defendant's original and lawful possession of it; (3) the defendant must be in a position of trust, so that the property is held by him or her pursuant to some fiduciary duty; and (4) the defendant must have an intent to defraud the owner at the time of the conversion.Ownership The principal or employer must be the owner of the property embezzled by an agent or employee at the time the offense is committed. Under many statutes, the ownership requirement is expressed as the property of another. It is sufficient if any person, other than the defendant, owns the property and it does not matter who has title to it or that it is owned by more than one person. Does this mean anything to the tax payers, all that Facebook overtime at the Sheriffs Dept is called EMBEZZLEMENT

A former Alleghany Deputy is scheduled for release from Federal Prison in November 2014, so there will be a cell available. I just wish we could make reservations! I don't think one cell would hold the group that needs to go, though.

Someone needs to bring this up in a commissioners meeting or contact a higher law enforcement agency, something needs to be done.

nope $ 20000.00 and yes you would think that is against the law if he couldn't prove he was working and not on face book

That is county money from us tax payers, I hope you meant $2000.00 not $20000.00 ? If so isn't that against the law?

not a big surprise to some of us, one person named above has used the sheriffs dept for his own personal revenge on people he disliked in the old sheriffs administration, and even to certain fire dept members, that is bad business any way you want to look at it !!!!!!

I just heard another deputy quit the sheriffs office that makes 4 officers scene Carlton Edwards retired and Tim Duncan took over. This is sad news all were good officers Justin West, Shane Glen, Bryant Pierce, Brian Maines obviously anyone can see their are big problems within the sheriffs office that the public doesn't know about......
