The sheriff of Ashe is a Democrat elected to a second term because the other candidate is a true idiot along with his wife. He did surround himself with competent employees with the exception of the tv star fat*** hoppy. The sheriff has to worry about being re= elected and mainly dealing with administration.

I agree that the pay needs to be seriously raised but not to the point of making the barneys more arrogant then they are. You can keep it low and be nothing but a training ground for them to go other places for more pay. This has been proven to cost a county more then to just give them raises to keep them. Notice how there is not much turnover within the johnny troopers highway patrol. They pay them but they work the turds out of them also.

Personally, I don't expect Columbo, but I also don't expect Goober Pyle. Maybe the sheriff needs to rethink his budget to attract more competent people. Then again, maybe the state of North Carolina needs to rethink the states antiquated qualifications to become a sheriff, which are basically be over the age of 21, and no prior experience is necessary. In the recent past, Ashe elected an undertaker and Alleghany elected a construction worker. While both are honorable professions, come on, from that to sheriff ?

What do you really expect with average pay at 25600 a year living in a tourist driven county.

A sheriff is just as good as his deputies. Edwards found that out after 2 terms. Maines will find out after 1 term. You just can't fix stupid.

the half pint sheriff is having the place painted. I was in there the other night and the guy behind the dark tinted windows had trash cans catching the water pouring threw the roof but the paint was going on thick. Brian better be a 1 term sheriff. He is running this county in the ground. He bought brand new SUVs go put on the road. He isn't ever in the office when citizens need him, and he's never in town. Cameron, you are exactly right on a few things, we did or I did vote for a change with Maines. However all I'm saying is where is it at.
