NC had a significant earthquake at 8:07 AM, at a Magnitude of 5.1 The center of the quake was almost 2 miles SE of Sparta NC. It was felt in Kentucky, Virginia, Tennessee, South Carolina and North Carolina. This earthquake was preceded by a smaller earthquake @ 2am......

Yes, Hwy 18 Mulberry..shook the house one very hard jolt few minutes after 8:00 AM..shook the floor in the middle of the house..very scary!

If you look at the fault map it looks more like the linville Falls fault as the brevard fault doesn't go through sparta

That's funny I had the exact opposite experience in that I felt it first and could here the roar moving away from me up 221.

Scarey, felt like a dinosaur walked across the porch and shook the kitchen. Was in the 6.4 quake in California about 50 years ago. Scarey then too.

Yes I felt it also. This is rare here in Wilkes Co? I have lived here 15 plus years and I do not remember this happening to this magnitude before. I am in the mountain view area
