Thanks again to the posters who are trying to deal with the problems outlined this thread. For the rest, your reluctance to enter the conversation speaks volumes.
Do you only mean "trying to deal with problems" those that think guns should be banned? Or do you mean those that think a different approach should be taken? Because I think a different approach should be taken. I think instead of focusing on the gun, we should focus on identifying those that are capable of doing this. I also think that we should arm trained professionals in our schools. I'm of the unpopular opinion that if you must medicate someone in order to keep them from harming themselves or others, then they should be closely supervised or hospitalized.

There you go,

Dylan Rooff was a liberal from a liberal family?

You'll have to back that statement up, Blowfly. I'm not saying it's right or wrong, mind.

I do think that shooters like we have been talking about should be put down like the diseased animals they are. I wish one of the victims had been armed and able to do it.

Note from GoNC: a portion of this post was removed that was in response to the earlier trolling.

I don't know the answer but you can bet within 2 months there is another shooting we are discussing. Look at the stats, it's basically every 7-9 weeks. And we are supposed to be the civilized nation.

It's reported he was well armed and wearing body armor. How does one get their hands on body armor and does it fall under the same laws as weapons?

CNN has reported that "Almost 80 percent of gun retailers reported a rise in female customers in 2012, according to industry figures. In Florida, 22 percent of the concealed carry permits are held by women. In Texas, women hold 28 percent of concealed carry permits, up sharply over the past decade."

Even the pro-gun-control New York Times has acknowledged this trend: "In the debate over firearms regulations, the voices of gun owners have largely been those of men. But at firing ranges across the country, a growing number of women are learning to use firearms and honing their skills Though they may share a fierce belief in the Second Amendment with their male counterparts, female gun owners often learn to shoot for different reasons, their interest in and proficiency with firearms not just a hobby or a means for self-defense, but a statement of independence and personal power."

ThinkProgress published a factually incorrect piece in the immediate aftermath of the mass shooting at an Oregon community college. Pundits and experts mentioned that the campus was a gun-free zone and ThinkProgress wasted no time in publishing, "UCC Was Not A Gun-Free Zone' Because Public Colleges in Oregon Can't Ban Guns." The apparent pro-Democratic Party front group mistakenly assumed that the community college in question was somehow under the same guidelines as state universities.

The school, Umpqua Community College, was, in fact, a gun-free campus. An archived copy of their student code of conduct shows:

Excellent points from several posters.

If banning guns aren't the answer, we need to find answers quickly. We need to combat the problem specifically, and it seems like, for these reasons and perhaps others, men are posing a greater problem in these tragedies than women.

nope, let's say you do .... the machine gun is your constitutional right. as a matter of fact, many have come forward to insist that more guns are needed at campuses not less. the machine gun is to protect the campus and must be secured at all times.

Let's say you don't do that.
