When I was a child, the celebration of Christmas was all about the birth of Jesus and centered around the church. We even spent most of Christmas eve at the church. The act of gift giving we were told, was in remembrance of the wise men and their offering. That didn't work for us as we had practically nothing to give! If you were lucky maybe a pair of overalls or shoes. It was still a very magical time for the very young. As I aged, the magic slowly disappeared and was replaced with an understanding of how things actually are. I hope my late wife's deer show up as I have purchased a treat for them.

You wouldn't know. You didn't go long enough to find out plus you must have went somewhere they were playing church. According to previous post

CHURCH IS OVER RATED. its a mind thing also, believe it will send you to heaven, or not. I believe i'll do just fine watching tv on sunday with a hot cup of coffee.

It's a state of mind, it's the condition your mind is in.

If you want it to feel like a true holiday or holy day if you will, then treat it as such.

If you want your birthday to be special then your state of mind is responsible to make it special.

That's why I kind of harp on that everyday can be special or holy!

It's whatever you want it to be!

I LOVE Christmas! Gift giving and receiving is kind of my least favorite part. I'm not big on getting or giving them personally so when you point out that gift giving is slightly less central and not really what makes it exciting anymore, I view that as a positive. Christmas replaced the winter solstice, but I think it still functions the same way culturally. It's cold and dark. The leaves are gone. The days are gray and drab. So you bring a green tree inside you put lights everywhere and gather with friends and family to fight the winter blues! It's a time to slow down and reflect on things and spend quality time with people you love! I love seeing the lights downtown and the smell of fir trees. Love the food and festive drinks. It's wholesome yet romantic. It's campy yet beautiful. Just a big fun mosh mash of traditions old and new. I love Christmas! Did. And when it's finally alol over, said and done you get New Year's! Which is big and raucous and exciting. If you need me I'll be sitting around chatting with friends and sucking down an ice cold glass of nog.
